Magnus Energy has strengthened its team in the Netherlands with Suzan Mentink, who brings extensive leadership experience in energy and technology to the firm.
Following an early career in renewable energy and later on technology, Suzan Mentink around sixteen years ago joined TenneT, where “I found the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for IT with working on the bigger picture: creating a sustainable and secure energy system.”
TenneT is the Transmission System Operator (TSO) of the Netherlands, playing a key role in the efficient and reliable transmission of electricity from generation plants via the power grid to ultimately businesses and consumers. The company also has operations in a number of other markets, making it a top 10 player among Europe’s grid operators.
“I started as an IT advisor and soon moved into management roles, initially focusing on the Netherlands and later expanding to oversee both Dutch and German teams. Over the years, we delivered numerous changes in transmission and system services, such as XBID, CGMES, and Core Flow-Based Market Coupling, both in the Netherlands and Germany. Another key project I worked on was preparing to replace a mission-critical EMS/SCADA platform.”
In recent years, she held leadership roles within the IT function, and worked on strategic initiatives such as the ‘Control Room of the Future’ concept. “This is a blueprint designed to prepare the grid for a sustainable future dominated by renewable energy sources, using advanced digital technologies,” said Mentink.
“Renewables like wind and solar power not only bring increased volatility to the grid but also behave differently, creating significant challenges. These changes demand closer grid monitoring and management. For example, instead of monitoring every four seconds, we need real-time monitoring in milliseconds’ accuracy. This represents a fundamental shift for any operator.”
Having just hit her 16-year milestone at TenneT, Mentink felt it was time for a change of scenery. “When I saw that Magnus Energy was expanding its Business & Technology Consulting team, I recognised a great opportunity for growth. Additionally, I have a passion for building teams, working on innovative topics, and advising on a more international level – while continuing to operate at the forefront of the power market.”
“At Magnus Energy, I’ve found exactly that. I look forward to helping our firm’s clients with their transformation to a next-generation energy system and sharing my experiences with the team.”
